Description
The capability of various microorganisms on recovering uranium from ores. With the aim of uranium recovery from low grade ores by bacterial leaching, microorganisms were used in this experiment isolated from rocks containing sulfur and uranium. Twenty-six strains were used consisting of four strains of microorganisms isolated for rocks containing sulfur and 22 strains from rocks of uranium. The solution used was 9 K with 44,2 g/l of ferrous sulphate. From this experiment it was obtained that all microorganisms used have the ability in extracting uranium. But only some of them have a higher uranium extraction capability compared with control based on a probability factor of 0.05; they were TP-7/4.5, B/CB-10/1/5.5, B/BC-10/4/5.5 and B/CB-12/3/5.5. The capabilities of uranium recovery by these microorganisms were between 19 to 21%, while from the control 9 to 13%. (author). 7 refs
