Description
LiErP4O12 single crystals are synthetized and studied by both, optical absorption and emission spectroscopy. The processes leading to the depopulation of the low lying excited states of Er3+ are analysed on the basis of experimental data and the Judd-Ofelt theory. The excitation energy migration rate is calculated in the framework of the model developed by Kushida and it is found that the calculated value is compatible with the previously published data and can account for the observed decay of the 4Isub(13/2) level. The results of the study are compared with those concerning ErP5O14 crystals. (author)
