Differential cross sections of neutron scattering on 14N at energies between 7.89 MeV and 13.85 MeV

Description

Differential cross sections of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering on 14N were determined in the energy range from 7.89 MeV to 13.85 MeV at 7 incident energies. The data were derived by comparing the net TOF spectra with calculated spectra using a realistic Monte Carlo simulation. The TOF measurement was accompanied by extensive and careful calibrations. The nitrogen cross sections have been normalized to hydrogen scattering. In addition to the elastic cross sections, 8 partial inelastic cross sections were measured at each energy attributed to excited levels or a level doublet of 14N. Angle-integrated cross sections were derived by fitting Legendre polynomial expansions to the measured angular distributions using least-squares methods. The results of this work have been compared with those of other authors and with the ENDF/B-VI evaluation. (orig.)
