Status of MUSL-2, the second microtron using a superconducting linac

Description

The arrangement of the components for the MUSL-2 microtron is presented. 2 MeV electron beam is injected from 3 MeV Van de Draaff and gains the energy up to 12 MeV in the 6 meter superconducting linac. The six pass recirculation system is being assembled at present and a beam of 72 MeV is expected. 150 foot transport beam line to the previous (MUSL-1) tagged photon area is complete. The operation of MUSL-2 and the associated beam monitors and transport lines involves the monitoring and control of more than 100 magnets steering coils view screens. The control system is arranged to be operated through the PDP-11/40 computer. In order to reach original goal of 600 MeV at 12 MeV per pass the second superconducting linac and magnets for the MUSL-3 microtron are being made
