Observatory of photovoltaic solar energy in France - 50. edition - Quarterly publication - First quarter 2024, June 2024

Description

Photovoltaic energy news from Q1 2024: approaching the GW per quarter mark. The connection volume for the first quarter of 2024 stood at 965 MW, up with respect to the fourth quarter of 2024 (921 MW). Compared with the previous quarter, the first quarter was marked by: a slight increase in the 'self-consumption' segment (total or partial), remaining at a very high level with over 54,000 installations connected, stability in the domestic segment (<9 kW), with 186 MW connected, a slight increase in the medium-roof segment (9 to 100 kW), with 112 MW connected, a very sharp rise in the large-roof segment (100 to 250 kW), with a connected volume of 316 MW (an all-time record), a significant increase in the very large roof segment (250 kW to 1 MW), with a connected volume of 21 MW, a significant drop in the large-scale segment (1 MW and over), with 277 MW connected. Photovoltaic electricity accounted for 2.2% of gross electricity consumption in France in the first quarter of 2024. The backlog on the distribution grid was again up with respect to the previous quarter. The queue on the transmission network is not known. We can therefore see that the stock of projects reached 23 GW at the end of the first quarter of 2024. With the market price of electricity back to around 60 Euros/MWh, there will be a very moderate impact on public charges for all segments. Around 380 GW of new photovoltaic installations will have been connected worldwide by 2023, according to the International Energy Agency, 239 GW of new photovoltaic installations were connected worldwide in 2022 (168 GW in 2021). SolarPowerEurope estimates that 239 GW of new capacity will be connected worldwide in 2022, up sharply with respect to 2021 (+45%). In 2022, China will account for 40% of this development (95 GW), followed by Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas with 20, 19 and 17% respectively. All geographies show a significant growth
