On a Stokes limit in low-frequency acoustics

  • 1. Dept. of Physics, Univ. of Natal, Pietermaritzburg (South Africa)

Description

A Stokes limit (change from adiabatic to isothermal oscillations in a gas at low frequency) can not occur in a infinite gas. It is argued that such a limit may exist for oscillations in a gas confined to a cavity. Experimental evidence supporting this conclusion is presented
