Measurement of activity of radiation sources under shielding of water, by TLD dosemeters

  • 1. Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, XX (Argentina). Centro Atomico Constituyentes. Unidad de Actividad Combustibles Nucleares

Description

The withdrawal of irradiated test pieces from a Nuclear Reactor needs a previous evaluation of its radiological activity, in order to ponder the radiological risk and get information that aids to make designs of shieldings or other technology elements that helps to improve handling procedures's safety. Here, a safe and effective underwater method to measure radiological activity from those sources in the Atucha-I Nuclear Power Plant's pools is described, using passive TLD type dosimeters. The data obtained is compared with direct measurements made in the transport container and inside the hot cells. (author)
