Effect of single particle spin on fission fragment angular momentum in odd-Z fissioning system

  • 1. Radiochemistry Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Independent isomeric yield ratios of 130,132Sb, 131,133Te and 134I have been determined in the fast neutron induced fission of 241Am using radiochemical and gamma spectrometric technique. From the independent isomeric yield ratios, fragment angular momenta (Jrms) have been deduced using spin dependent statistical model analysis. The Jrms values have been analysed in the light of nuclear structure effect. From the Jrms values deformation parameter (β) of the fragments were deduced and compared with the same in even-Z fissioning systems. It has been observed that Jrms and the β-value for even-Z fragments in all the fissioning systems are comparable whereas for the odd-Z fragments the Jrms and β-values in odd-Z fissioning systems are higher compared to even-Z fissioning systems. This indicates the role of single particle on fragment Jrms in odd- Z fissioning systems. (author)
