Study of a carboxy-alkyl-diphenylphosphine oxide in liquid-liquid extraction, and of its potentialities in extractive chromatography

Description

This thesis addressed the study of a liquid-liquid extraction agent, a phosphine oxide complex, the (carboxy-2 ethyl)diphenylphosphine oxide (CEDPPO). The first part reports the study of the CEDPPO separation into an aqueous phase and chloroform, and the study of the different dissociation, separation and polymerisation equilibriums. He also discusses the possible associations between the CEDPPO and electron-donor derivatives in solution in chloroform. The second part reports the test of the CEDPPO extraction power with respect to metallic cations like Fe(III) and Cu(II), but also Zn(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II). The shapes of the different complexes obtained during the previous stages are studied. Extraction results are then transposed to chromatography.
