Numerical investigation of the Troyon scaling law for exact equilibrium model

Description

The validity of the Troyon scaling law is numerically investigated using the HBT code in the high-beta tokamak ordering and in the exact form. A simple profile optimization scheme is followed to determine the stability limits to ballooning modes. The effect of elongation and triangularity of flux surfaces on these modes is investigated. It is shown that the maximum <β> values obtained using the exact equilibrium are much smaller than the values obtained with the high β ordering, for given elongation and triangularity.
