Study on the plasma ET, β2-m and TH levels in 78 patients with acute renal failure

Description
Objective: To explore the clinical significance of changes of plasma ET, β2-m and thyroid hormone (TH: T3, T4, FT3, FT4 and TSH) levels in patients with acute renal failure (ARF). Methods: Plasma ET, β2-m (with RIA) and thyroid hormones (with CLIA) levels were determined in 78 patients with ARF and 35 controls. Results: Plasma ET andβ2-m levels in patients with ARF were significantly higher than those in controls (both P < 0.01), but plasma T3 and FT3 levels were significantly lower (P < 0.05 and <0.01, respectively), T4, FT4 and TSH levels in patients with ARF were not significantly different from those in controls (P < 0.05). Conclusion: ET, β2-m and thyroid hormones could serve as markers for early detection of acute renal failure. (authors)
