Multi-stability of a body with magnetizable elastomer in a non-uniform magnetic field

Description

The existence of more than two stable equilibrium shapes (multi-stability) of a thin body with magnetizable elastomer in some non-uniform magnetic fields is found theoretically. The method of the creation of such non-uniform magnetic fields (using electromagnetic coils) is proposed. The criterion of an unstable body equilibrium is obtained. - Highlights: • Deformation of a body with a magnetizable elastomer in a magnetic field is studied. • Multi-stability of the body in some magnetic fields is found. • Method of the creation of such magnetic fields is proposed. • Criterion of an unstable body equilibrium is obtained.
