Studies of ground-water flow in till soils

Abstract This paper describes some results of an investigation of ground-water flow in till soils. The investigation was carried out in "the true moraine area" in the southeast of Sweden, where distinctive morphological types of moraine terrain occur, in the first place drumlin-shaped hills and hummocky moraine. Geological investigations, short-term pumping tests and tracer experiments showed that there exist characteristic differences in flow pattern, velocity of flow, storage, and yield of ground water between drumlin terrain and hummocky moraine. These differences are due to the differences in structure and stratigraphy but not in texture.
