Destruction of optically transparent crystals with macroscopic crack under laser exposure

Description
The influence of a macroscopic crack on the mechanical strength of monocrystals NaCl, LiF, CaCO3 exposed to pulsed laser irradiation is investigated. The probabilistic estimation of the activation of the initial macro crack growth at the optical disruption is given. The mechanism of the initial macroscopic crack growth is proposed. It is based on the combination of cavities, microcracks and macro cracks arising at heating and burning out of absorbing impurities
