Sol-gel based test fuel pin fabrication facility for fast reactors

Description
A laboratory scale facility for the fabrication of test fuel pins through sol-gel route has been set up. The specially designed glove boxes of the facility incorporate remotely operable equipment for gelation, sintering, pelletisation, pin loading by stacking of pellets or vibrocompaction of microspheres and end plug welding. Test pins fabricated here will be irradiated in FBTR. It is proposed to use minor actinide containing fuel pins in this facility and irradiate them in FBTR for generating experience on minor actinide burning using fast reactors. (author)
