Spectroscopy of molecules and solids

Description

The Soleil synchrotron is optimized in the domain of soft X-rays and far ultraviolet and as a consequence is an efficient tool to investigate the electronic properties of matter. 3 examples are presented in this document. The first example shows how the Fourier transform spectrometry has been extended to vacuum ultraviolet (VUV), such a Fourier transform spectrometer has been set on the DESIRS line of the Soleil synchrotron and has given relevant results in terms of both very high resolution and a good accuracy in the wave-length. The second example deals with the spectroscopic study of molecule movements. For the first time the high value of the spectral resolution of the PLEIADES line has allowed the detection of a Doppler effect that is linked to the rotations of molecules. The third article explains how the angular photoemission has allowed us to show that multi-layers of graphene grown on SiC behave themselves as a whole as a single graphene layer. (A.C.)
