Band crossings at low ratational frequency in 164Er

  • 1. Colorado Univ., Boulder (USA). Nuclear Physics Lab.

Description

States up to I -- 14 h/2π in 164Er have been studied using the (p, 2n) and (α, 2n) reactions. Four new band crossings are observed at low rotational frequency: the quadrupole vibrational bands (β, γ) are crossed by the (isub(13/2))2 S-band, and the two lowest octupole bands are crossed by a two-quasiparticle band that involves a single isub(13/2) neutron. Interaction strengths of about 30 keV explain the perturbed level spacings. (author)
