Description
A new conception of thermodynamic stability of amorphous alloys of the transition metal-metalloid type is proposed. It is based on an assumption that amorphous structure minimizes the heat of metalloid impurity solution. The test data on solid solutions, interstitial phase and heats of chemosorption bonds are considered and classified. The tendencies observed allow one to explain inclinations to vitrification of alloys of transition metals with almost filled d-zones and metalloids having sufficiently large atomic size
