NMR-imaging of carcinomas of the prostate, urinary bladder and rectum

Description
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging is independent from breathing and provides exceptionally good quality imaging of the head, neck and pelvis regions. However, differentiation between tumour tissue and scar tissue continues to be difficult - a drawback for therapy planning it this is desired or needed. New opportunities are offered by systematic analyses of the T1 and T2 periods and by fat/water separation. The article reports experience gained with the imaging of organs of the pelvis region which may be of interest to radiologists as well as surgeons and urologists. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die atemunabhaengige Darstellung der Kopf-, Hals- und Beckenregion mit der Kernspintomographie hat zu besonders eindrucksvollen Abbildungsmoeglichkeiten gefuehrt. Es ist jedoch weiterhin schwierig, zwischen Narben- und Tumorgewebe zu differenzieren, wenn dies fuer die Therapieplanung wuenschenswert oder auch unerlaesslich ist. Systematische Analysen der T1- und T2-Zeiten und die Fett-/Wassertrennung bieten neue Wege. Besondere Erfahrungen werden fuer die Organe der Beckenregion berichtet, so dass neben Radiologen auch Chirurgen und Urologen besonders angesprochen sind. (orig.)Additional details
