Experimental superconducting accelerator ring
Description
The construction and operation of a relatively small synchrotron and storage ring employing superconducting magnets, which is called ESCAR, is proposed by Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. It will be located close by the existing Bevatron. The ring accelerates protons to about 4 GeV; 50 MeV protons for injection can be brought from a nearby injector linac. The goal of 5x1012 circulating protons is desirable for the beam experiment requiring high intensity. The shape of the ring is rounded square, with four straight sections; one for injection, one for an accelerating rf system, and the remaining two for monitoring and experimentation. (Mori, K.)
