Approximate effectiveness evaluation of Si solar cell tandem with photothermocell

Description
The idea that it is feasible to develop commercial solar cells tandem with a photothermocell based on a narrow-gap semiconductor is proposed. The operation and efficiency of a Si solar cell in tandem with a photothermocell based on a semiconductor with a band gap of ∼0.3 eV is discussed. It is shown that, at an operating temperature of 60-75 C, the tandem efficiency can be increased by more than 50% as compared with the Si solar cell efficiency. (author)
