  • 1. Department of Nuclear Safeguards and Physical Protection National Center for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Control Atomic Energy Authority, Cario (Egypt)

Description

This work investigates the different aspects of the implementation of Physical Inventory Taking of nuclear material in a Nuclear Fuel Research and Development Laboratory. The final goal is the accountancy and control; and the verification of nuclear material in the facility for operational and nuclear safeguards purposes where only Low Enriched Uranium is considered. The basic principles of nuclear material safeguards are applied according to the Safeguards Agreement between the concerned State and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Measurements to be performed on different types of nuclear material, and the obtained results should be compared with the Book Inventory of such materials in the facility. Results and recommendations of the Physical Inventory Taking procedure are very essential for ensuring the correct accountancy and control for the operation of the facility and the success of the Physical Inventory Verification which would be performed by the Nuclear Safeguards System of the International Atomic Energy Agency and/or the National System of Accounting For and Control of Nuclear Material in the concerned State
