Self-welding investigations of hard facing materials in sodium

  • 1. Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp., Oarai, Ibaraki (Japan). Oarai Engineering Center

Description

For the purpose of selecting and developing hard facing materials to be used for the contacting and sliding sections of sodium components of the Fast Prototype Reactor 'MONJU' (LMFBR), the authors are carrying out a series of in-sodium self-welding experiments on various types of materials. This paper reports on the results and evaluation of the experiments performed to investigate the self-welding behavior in respect of Ni base alloy, Co base alloy and chromium carbide/nichrome selected by a screening test, and an austenitic stainless steel used for the main structural material of LMFBR
