Information on electronic structure of metals and alloys obtained from the hyperfine structure of Moessbauer spectra
Description
The study of electronic and magnetic structure in the solid state from the hyperfine structure of Moessbauer spectra is now one of the most important applications of the Moessbauer effect. The problems of the study of hyperfine interactions of the nucleus with the electrons are discussed: the isomer shift, quadrupole splitting and mainly the magnetic splitting of nuclear levels. Attention is paid to the relation of these quantities to the electronic structure of the solid state, the possibilities of the interpretation of experimental results in the field of metals and alloys (namely in their magnetic ordering) are analyzed, and they are demonstrated on chosen examples of ferromagnetic iron-based solid solutions. The Moessbauer spectroscopy method is compared with other methods and its possible applications are discussed
