Radionuclide forms in the contaminated soils of Byelorussia

Forms of the Chernobyl fallout radionuclides in soils of the Southern Byelorussia have been studied by the selective dissolution method. The relationship between water soluble, excangeable, acidsoluble and firmly bounded forms of Cs-134, Cs-137 and Sr-90 in 1-sm soil layers at various depths from the surface is determined. The major quantity of radiocesium is shown to be in a fixed state, while Sr-90 is mainly in changeable and fixed states. The quantity of changeable and fixed Sr-90 is found to increase and decrese respectively as moving away from the source of contamination. In the soil layers more in-depth the portion of changeable state radionuclides, as a rule, increases. Experimental results show a higher migration ability of Sr-90 in comparison with that of Cs-134 and Cs-137
