Diallylterephtalat: a new plastic nuclear track detector?

Description
A new plastic material, called AW15, was studied to investigate its track etch properties. This plastic material has been produced for optical applications with a specific refractive index. We irradiated AW15 with fission- and alpha-particles from a Cf-252-source and with other heavy ions. During the etching process tree-like fractal structures were found. These fractals are investigated at different etching conditions. A fractal mass dimension of 1.6 to 1.8 was found. (author)
