Results of radiation therapy for lung cancer
Description
Three hundred forty-six patients with lung cancer were treated with definitive radiation doses (>50 Gy) in the period of April 1968 through March 1982. The 5-year survival rates were 40%, 8%, 2%, and 0% for stage I,II,III, and IV disease. No significant differences in survival were observed among patients with squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma. In stage II non-small-cell cancer, the best survival rate was obtained with conventional fractionation radiation therapy in small daily doses (≤1.8 Gy). On the other hand, in stage III disease, patients treated with uneven fractionation irradiation showed the best survival rates
