Effect of early use of antibioties on intestinal ach and 5-HT contents in γ-irradiated mice

  • 1. Academy of Military Sciences, PLA, Beijing (China). Inst. of Radiation Medicine

Description

It was found that in experimental acute radiation sickness the chance of occurence of intestinal intussusception in treated animals was higher than that in irradiated controls. It was probably related to the early use of antibiotics in the former group. The data obtained in the experiments showed that change of intestinal Ach and 5-HT contents in irradiated mice treated with intraperitoneal injection of penicillin and streptomycin for a long time post-irradiation was similar to that in irradiated controls. However, the intestinal 5-HT content in experimental animals treated with oral administration of streptomycin and neomycin, was singnificantly higher than that in controls while the Ach content did not show the same change. To this may be attributed the disorder of intesinal motility. It is advisable, therefore, in clinical practice to follow clinical symptoms closely in irradiated patients receiving oral administration of certain antibiotics
