Radiological Protection Research 1991 annual report

The Radiological Protection Research (RPR) programme carried out by AEA Environment and Energy is concerned with all aspects of the protection of man and the environment from the hazards of radiation and with the development of techniques for detection and control of radiation and radionuclides. This annual report for the year to 31 March 1991 provides a summary of the research. The programme received funding of nearly Pound 4M from some 20 organisations. Four principal fields are distinguished in presenting the research: radiation effects, concerned with hazards at human, animal and cellular levels; radiation dosimetry concerned with the measurement of all types of radiation exposure; environmental radioactivity, concerned with radionuclides behaviour after environmental release and the mechanisms by which they migrate between different media; and accidental dispersion, concerned with particular radiological problems which may arise in nuclear accidents.
