Electrical, magnetic and galvanomagnetic properties of vanadium- and tantalum hydrides

Description

The paper studies a number of physical properties of hydrides of vanadium and tantalum as a function of the temperature and concentration of hydrogen. It gives the concentration dependences of microhardness, lattice spacing, density, Hall coefficient, thermoelectromotive force, magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistance in V-H and Ta-H systems. The fact that the Hall coefficients and the thermoelectromotive force are of positive sign at room temperature is evidence of the predominantly hole-type conduction in the hydrides studied. Anomalies were found in the concentration-dependent variation of properties associated with the ordered arrangement of hydrogen atoms. (N.K.)
