Risk assessment for dams

Description

The history, sometimes recent, shows that the risk is never non-existent neither in the field of dams nor in other domains. This analysis of risks appeals to concepts and emerging methodologies in order to better determine the real causes of the risks and to proceed to a more efficient maintenance and repair. Risk management imposes a good conception of the dams and their security devices, an organization of the surveillance, controls and emergency preparedness plans for important dams. (author)

Abstract (French)

L'histoire, parfois recente, montre que le risque nul en matiere de barrages n'existe pas plus la que dans bien d'autres domaines. L'analyse structuree des risques fait appel a des concepts et des methodologies en cours de developpement et dont l'objectif est de cerner, au mieux, les causes fondamentales de risque et de rendre plus efficace la maintenance et la reparation des ouvrages. La gestion du risque implique, au-dela du dimensionnement des ouvrages et de leurs dispositifs de securite, une organisation de la surveillance, des controles et des plans particuliers d'intervention pour les grands barrages.
