Application of A.C. potential drop method to the detection of initiation in static and dynamic testing

  • 1. IRSID, 78 - Saint-Germain-en-Laye (France)

Description

After the description of the method and the advantages of AC rather than DC examples with pressure vessel steels are given both in static loading and in dynamic testing for the evaluation of the loading rate effect. The good agreement between the minimum potential and the initiation of stable crack growth can be checked by fractographic examination of specimens. The ACPD technique can be employed to determine R-curves from single specimens
