Inverter modelling using space vector pulse width modulation of 1000 MWe PWR reactor coolant pump system

Description

Reactor cooling system is an important component in NPP. The main part of reactor coolant system is cooling pump driven by motors that have alternating voltage 6900 V and frequency 60 Hz. To meet the redundancy and diversity aspects, the motors are supplied by grid, captive power, and battery. The battery is a direct current voltage source (DC) so it requires an inverter to convert DC voltage to AC voltage. SVPWM inverter is a DC voltage converter into AC voltage with low harmonic value. The variables that determine the value and quality of the inverter output voltage are the frequency of control signal, Vdc, and switching frequency. The research purpose is to model SPWM inverters and simulate it to obtain these variables so the inverter can be used as an inverter in the PWR 1000 MWe reactor coolant system. The simulation is done with 2 scenario that have different switching frequency. Simulation done using Simulink Matlab. The results show that SVPWM inverters can be used as interfaces between batteries and reactor coolant pumps. This SVPWM inverter can produce 6900V AC voltage with 60 Hz frequency. The SVPWM inverter uses Vdc 6900 V, 60 Hz signal control frequency, and switching frequency of 129.6 kHz. (author)
