Preparation and structure of hexagonal molybdenum trioxide

  • 1. Inorganic Chemistry Lab., Oxford, England

Description

The phase widely known as hexagonal MoO3 is shown to correspond to the dehydrated and de-ammoniated decamolybdate. The latter material has the ideal stoichiometry NH4Mo5 O15OH x 2H2O. Relationships between a variety of materials with the decamolybdate structure are discussed. A novel preparative route to ammonium decamolybdate is described
