Perspectives for the improvement of the system for radioactive waste management in Ukraine

Description

The organizational structure of radioactive waste management in Ukraine is presented. The Ukrainian State Association 'Radon' acts through several regional institutions in Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Kiev, Donetsk, Lvov, Kharkov. In the site 'Ukrytie' the stored radioactive wastes are about 400 000 m3, 11000 of them are high- or intermediate-level waste. About 280 000 m3 of radioactive wastes are located in the technologically modified ground layer. The main tasks of the government in the area of the complex management of radioactive wastes and the perspectives for the improvement of the RAW management system are presented
