Description

The linear motor dubbed as the brain of a cryocooler is one of the most important components of the cryocooler, which drives the compressor piston henceforth initiating the process of cooling in a cryocooler. In the present work, the moving magnet type linear motor has been opted for citing to its advantages and compatibility with Stirling type cryocoolers. Previously conducted studies have explored the optimal materials, coil gage size, geometry and electromagnetic parameters. Now a novel design has been developed with the characteristics of high air gap flux density, optimal moving mass, commendable longevity and compatibility with scaling. The finite element method (FEM) has been utilized to analyze the different geometric and electromagnetic parameters for the different configurations of the linear motor. Hence, the analysis results in an optimal design for any given specifications of the linear motor for a Stirling type cryocooler. (author)
