Studies of production and decay of some alpha-active isotopes of einsteinium, mendelevium, nobelium and lawrencium
Description
Five isotopes of einsteinium (A=243-247), five isotopes of mendelevium (A=248-252), two isotopes of nobelium (A=255,257) and six isotopes of lawrencium (A=255-260) have been studied by means of α-particle spectroscopy. The isotopes were produced by bombarding heavy-element targets with heavy ions accelerated by the Berkeley HILAC. The experimental data were published in four papers which, together with this summary, form the present thesis. In the summary, some further details and interpretations are presented. Experimental cross sections for a large variety of (HI,xn), (HI,αxn) and (HI,2αxn) reactions used to produce the nuclides are tabulated and are compared with calculated values based on compound-nucleus- and transfer-reaction models.
