Description
A number of studies have been performed to evaluate the effect axial burnup distribution has on criticality safety in the transportation of spent fuel. An initial pressurized water reactor database was developed to evaluate the axial burnup profiles of various reactor types. The data showed that the various types exhibit similar behavior, especially at the top and bottom of the assembly. From the existing data, bounding axial burnup profiles could be developed to envelop the various pressurized water reactor assembly designs. However, the database should be expanded to improve statistics and to include additional fuel designs
