Neutron shielding material
Description
The neutron shielding material is prepared by mixing, with a polymeric material, at least one of materials selected from the group consisting of samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), gadolinium (Gd) and dysprosium (Dy) in the form of metal or its compound (also including ore form), which are thermal neutron absorbing material. Such material can be reinforced by being composited with fibers or cloth and deformations due to thermal stresses or external stresses can be reduced to improve the shielding performance for neutrons including fast neutrons. The shielding materials are used for the transportation of spent nuclear fuels or for storage container. (T.M.)
