Features of nuclear reactions induced by ultracold neutrons traversing thin films

  • 1. Russian Research Centre Kurchatov Institute, pl. Kurchatova 1, Moscow, 123182 Russia (Russian Federation)

Description

The probabilities of the elastic scattering and capture of ultracold neutrons in thin films are calculated in the time representation of quantum theory. It is shown that, if the neutron wavelength λ is much greater than the film thickness d, the macroscopic probability of ( n,γ) reactions may become less than the macroscopic probability of elastic scattering
