A new scintillating glass for high energy physics applications
Description
A new scintillating glass has been developed containing Cerium (3+) oxide in an aluminate host glass. In this material the scintillation emission spectrum is red-shifted relative to that observed for Ce3+ in silicate glasses. Additionally emission and absorption spectra are more widely separated in the aluminate composition, suggesting that such glasses might have improved light transmission properties. The refractive index is high, making it a potentially interesting material for use in fiber-optic tracking detectors
