Electrical system and use of power electronics for heating in an experimental sodium loop

  • 1. Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

Experimental sodium loops are constructed and operated to perform research and development work as well as study of specific problems related with fast reactor. Reactor conditions except radiation are simulated for conducting experiments/tests in sodium loops. The conditions simulated are high temperature 550 deg C (823 deg K), pressure and sodium atmosphere similar to fast reactor. This report gives details of over all electrical power distribution, cabling and use of power electronics in heating system of one such loop called Large Component Test Rig (LCTR) commissioned and being operated in the centre
