Experimental absorption and desorption study on a combination of 60Co, 51Cr, 137Cs, 54Mn and 22Na in the carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)
Description
The study of radionuclide behavior in water shows that about 25% of the 60Co et 98% of the 54Mn are found in particle form, while 96% of the 137Cs and 87% of the 22Na remain in solution. The soluble fraction generally remains cationic except for 60Co, of which over one-fourth becames anionic. The uptake kinetics in the carp vary widely according to the radionuclide. The process is linear for 54Mn, and tends to decrease in time for 137Cs, while an equilibrium state tends to avise with 60Co and 22Na. The fresh weight concentration factors calculated after 65 days of experimentation were 150, 12, 3 and 120, respectively. Contaminated carp placed in non-radioactive water for 57 days lost between 45% and 65% of the 60Co, 137Cs and 54Mn uptake. These elimination rates correspond to biological half-lives of 70-120 days for radioactive cobalt and cesium, and longer than 120 days for 54Mn. The process was much more rapid with 22Na, 95% of which was eliminated in 57 days: this corresponds to two biological half lives of 3 and 15 days. When the fish were deprived of food the process was appreciably slower, but in different proportions for each radionuclide; the effect was more significant for 137Cs and 60Co than for 54Mn and 22Na. The fecal excretion of radionuclides also diminished: smaller quantities of 60Co and 54Mn were eliminated under these conditions than when food was administered. L'etude du comportement des radionucleides dans l'eau montre qu'environ 25% du 60Co et 98% du 54Mn passent sous forme particulaire, alors que 96% du 137Cs et 87% du 22Na restent en solution. La fraction soluble des radioelements demeure essentiellement sous forme cationique a l'exception du 60Co dont plus du quart devient anionique. La contamination des carpes correspond a des cinetiques d'accumulation assez differentes selon les radionucleides. Pour le 54Mn le processus est lineaire, pour le 137Cs il diminue avec le temps, alors que pour le 60Co et le 22Na un etat d'equilibre tend a s'instaurer. Les facteurs de concentration calcules a la fin des 56 jours d'experience sont respectivement de 150, 12, 3 et 120 (poids frais). Les carpes contaminees placees dans de l'eau inactive perdent en 57 jours de 45 a 65% du 60Co, du 137Cs et du 54Mn qu'elles avaient fixes. Ces taux d'excretion correspondent a des periodes biologiques longues de 70 a 120 jours pour le radiocobalt et le radiocesium et superieure a 120 jours pour le 54Mn. Pour le 22Na le processus est tres rapide et se traduit par une elimination de 95% en 57 jours qui correspond a deux periodes biologiques: 3 et 15 jours. Le jeune ralentit sensiblement le processus d'elimination mais dans des proportions variables selon les radionucleides. L'effet est plus important pour le cesium 137 et le cobalt 60 que pour le manganese 54 et le sodium 22. Le jeune entraine aussi une diminution de l'excretion des radionucleides par voie fecale; les carpes demeurant a jeun eliminent moins de cobalt 60 et de manganese 54 que celles qui recoivent de la nourriture. En ce qui concerne le sodium 22 l'excretion fecale est quasiment nulle dans les deux casFiles
