Description
The authors have used the University of Michigan 7-Telsa superconducting solenoid (Nucl. Instrum. Meth., in press) configured in a 6.4 meter time-of-flight mode as a reaction product separator for the production of very neutron-rich isotopes of up to Z=40 near φ-0 degrees. These were produced at MSU-NSCL with a beam of 136Xe24+ at 30 MeV/nucleon stopped in a thick 12C target. A position-sensitive PPAC detector provided both a fast timing start signal and a measurement of the fragment emissions angle. A Si detector telescope was used for the fast timing and energy measurements at the solenoid focal plane. A position sensitive (PSD) Si detector together with the PPAC permitted angular distributions to be measured from <1 degrees to 6 degrees at several different fragment energies. Various q/A analog beams of the Xe primary beam were used for particle I.D. (Z,A), energy, and time of flight calibrations
