Assessment of the reliability of robotic systems for use in radiation environments

The robots used in nuclear applications need to be both reliable and radiation tolerant. As part of the European Commission's TELEMAN research programme a number of analyses were performed of different designs, combining a more conventional reliability analysis with an analysis of the radiation tolerance of the components and systems. The paper outlines the procedures of these analyses and shows a number of the results. (author)
