A-dependence of the cross section for production of the narrow baryon resonance N/sub phi/

Creators

Description

In an experiment performed with the BIS-2 spectrometer in the neutron beam of the Serpukhov accelerator we have recorded the production of the narrow baryon resonance N/sub phi/ which decays into summation-(1385) and K+. In separation of the resonance, for identification of the positively charged kaon we used the multichannel threshold gas Cerenkov counters which are part of the spectrometer. The exposure of the spectrometer in the neutron beam was carried out with three targets: carbon, aluminum, and copper. This permitted estimation of the A-dependence of the cross section for production of N/sub phi/, which is described by a power law σproportionalA/sup α/ with α = 0.6 +- 0.3. The product of the N/sub phi/ production cross section by the probability of decay by the channel observed is 0.26 +- 0.04 μb per nucleon
