Fire protection in fuel cycle nuclear installations (CNEN-RES--03/97)

This standard establishes the criteria and requirements for protection against fire in order to prevent the occurrence, neutralize the action and minimize the effects on the nuclear and/or toxic material present in the nuclear installations of the fuel cycle, in order to avoid, or limit to the lowest possible levels the effects of ionizing radiation or toxic substances on people and the environment; Specifies the following fire protection requirements that must be established in the form of administrative controls, detailing the procedures to be followed as appropriate: fire prevention, detection, alarm and fire fighting, fire containment, fire analysis, Preliminary Plan Fire Protection Plan (PPPI), Fire Protection Plan (PPI), Quality Assurance, access and escape routes, ventilation systems, electrical systems, communication systems, fire brigades, unit brigade, and fire brigade installation; Fully applies to all facility items and facilities during the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and eventual modification stages of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, except reprocessing facilities
