Prospects of nuclear power in iron metallurgy
Description
Basic data are given on the development of world energy consumption and structure of resources. Iron metallurgy uses 8 to 12% of all types of energy and the endeavour is therefore manifest to meet these increased demands by new and more efficient types of energy independent of conventional resources. One possibility is the use of the high temperature gas cooled reactor as the source of heat supply for iron and steel manufacture. The concrete specification of this project is demonstrated on the Japanese programme. (F.M.)
