Magnetic relaxation processes in hydrogen-charged electron-irradiated Pd3Fe

Description

Ordered (L12) and disordered Pd3Fe is charged with hydrogen, both electrolytically and thermally, and then irradiated at about 40 K with 3 MeV electrons to a dose of 9.6 x 1022 m-2. A detailed investigation of the resulting magnetic relaxation spectra and their annealing behaviours is made. In ordered Pd3Fe, relaxation peaks are observed at 34 and 74 K; these are increased in amplitude over the corresponding peaks in irradiated, uncharged samples. This is attributed to the trapping of intrinsic defects at hydrogen. Apart from this, no significant difference is found from the relaxation spectra of hydrogen-charged, irradiated Pd3Fe. It is concluded that the interactions between hydrogen and radiation-induced defects in Pd3Fe are too small to produce any additional, measurable relaxation effects. (orig.)
