A Study on Evaporative Impinging Spray of Emulsified Fuels with Numerical Analysis

  • 1. Dong-A Univ., Busan (Korea, Republic of)

Description

As a basic research to apply an emulsified fuel to a real engine, in this study, an analysis of behavior characteristics of the evaporative impinging spray of an emulsified fuel composed of diesel fuel and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was conducted, and a numerical analysis was performed simultaneously. The numerical analysis was carried out by using ANSYS CFX to set the experimental boundary condition, the diffusion areas of impinging sprays, and the molar concentration of fuel vapors according to varying mixing ratios of the emulsified fuel and changes in the heating temperatures of the impinging plate. In conclusion, the results of the study suggest that if an emulsified fuel is to be applied to a real engine, it can improve the emission reduction of engine exhaust gases, because the temperature inside the combustion chamber is expected to be lowered owing to the latent heat of evaporation of hydrogen peroxide in the emulsified fuel and quick mixture formation due to the accelerated evaporation and diffusion of fuel spray inside the combustion chamber.
